Toonamation at Siggraph 2008

Next week Lisa and I will be spending all week at Siggraph 2008 in Los Angeles. Here are the courses and technical paper sessions I’m planning to attend, focused on ideas and techniques for writing new and better image-manipulation motion graphics plugins:

Tuesday, August 12
Computational Photography: Advanced Topics

Wednesday, August 13
Tile-Based Methods for Interactive Applications

Thursday, August 14
Tone & Color

Friday, August 15
NPR & Deformation
Painting & Sketching

If you haven’t attended the Bilateral Filtering class on Friday, I’d also highly recommend it. I’m not including it on my own schedule because I did it last year, plus it conflicts with new things I want to attend.

I joined the tweetSiggraph grouptweet that chrisWhite created (modestly at my suggestion) to help twitter users at Siggraph share discoveries and organize impromptu get-togethers. As always, you can also follow me individually on twitter as Toonerstan. Looking forward to hearing from you.

New Distributor for ToonIt

As of a week ago, August 1, ToonIt! for AE, FCP, and Avid, renamed ToonIt, is being distributed by plugin colossus Red Giant. The contract was negotiated during the preceding month and signed the day before release. Very cool, and this was the quickest and least painful contract I’ve ever been involved with - Andrew Little of Red Giant is a pleasure to work with. Our previous distributor, Digital Anarchy, is reengineering itself to concentrate on the Photoshop and image-based plugin markets. We’re still working with them and crunching to try to release a Photoshop version of ToonIt!, also including many of the new effects shown below, sometime in September. BTW, here’s our new logo with Red Giant:
